Alma Chapter 31

Chapter 31 we Meet the Zoramites, and we learn about the kind of people they are.  They were lead by Zoram ( who had been a follower of  the teachings of Nehor).  We read in verses 23-27 what the Zoramites were like as people ...

"...they were a wicked and a perverse people; yea, he saw that their hearts were set upon gold, and upon silver, and upon all manner of fine goods.

25 Yea, and he also saw that their hearts were alifted up unto great boasting, in their pride."..

26 And he lifted up his voice to heaven, and cried,     saying: O, how long, O Lord, wilt thou suffer that thy servants shall dwell here below in the flesh, to behold such gross wickedness among the children of men?

27 Behold, O God, they acry unto thee, and yet their hearts are swallowed up in their pride. Behold, O God, they cry unto thee with their mouths, while they are bpuffed up, even to greatness, with the vain things of the cworld."

Alma's  Prayer                                                                         Zoramite's Prayer

Alma decided to use Preach the word of God to the Zoramintes in the hope that they would repent and change their ways. (Alma 31:5).  He Knew that the word of God is effective when leading peop;e to do what is right.  Just as the Lamanites did when they destroyed the Gadianton robbers ( Helaman 6:37)

“True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior.  “The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior” (in Conference Report, Oct. 1986, 20; or Ensign,Nov. 1986, 17).- Elder Boyd K. Packer

"When individual members and families immerse themselves in the scriptures regularly and consistently, these other areas of activity will automatically come. Testimonies will increase. Commitment will be strengthened. Families will be fortified. Personal revelation will flow” ( “The Power of the Word,” Ensign, May 1986, 81 ).- Pres. Ezra taft Benson.
