Seminary Alma Chapter 30

          

Today we discussed Alma Chapter 30.  We learned about what an ANTI-CHRIST is.(Someone who counterfeits the true gospel plan and opposes Christ) We read the story of Korihor and how he came about to preach to the Nephites. We also learned about how even though some of the Nephites fell for his teachings not all believed his words.  Just as the people of Ammon and the people of Gideon as well as the people from Zarahemla did not fall to his deceit.  While reading this chapter we discussed things such as:

• How Satan uses those who come under his power to teach his False Doctrine. Also we spoke of how the words of the Prophets and scriptures EXPOSE Satan's lies ( Alma 30:6-18).
• Faith is a "hope for things which are not seen, which are true"(Alma 32:21) 
• The peace and joy come from the Spirit, together with the Testimonies of prophets, the scriptures, and all of creation, are evidence that God exists. ( Alma 30:34-44; Moses 6:63)

"The Book of Mormon exposes the Enemies of Christ.  It confounds false doctrine and lays down contention.(2 Nephi 3:12) It fortifies the humble followers of Christ against the Devil designs, strategies, and doctrines of the Devil on our day.  The type of apostates in the Book of Mormon are similar to the type we have today.  God, with his infinite foreknowledge, so molded the Book of Mormon that we might see the error and know how to combat false educational, political,religious,and philosophical concepts of our time". --    President Ezra Taft Benson





Alma's response to Korihor provides a good example of how to deal with opposition.  Alma in accordance with the Savior's teachings, did not contend with Korihor. ( 3 Nephi 11:29)  He corrected Korihor's false accusations against Church Leaders.  he showed how Korihor was twisting the truth, and he used his Testimony and the teachings of the prophets and the scriptures to the defend the truth.( Alma 30:31-45) 
"The devil has...the whole world...so perfectly at his disposal, that it only takes a very few devils to keep them all in subjection; and the whole legion of devils have nothing to do but look after the "Mormons" and stir up the hearts of the children of men to destroy them--to put them out of existence"
